Do you absolutely need a laptop or an iPad in the upper school, if so why?
So a laptop in any case to be able to work properly, to research, to work on Word, etc.
An iPad is not absolutely necessary now, but it is recommended. It is bigger than an iPhone but smaller than a computer. So it is quite handy to transport and research, also because it is less distracting than the iPhone.
Use an ipad because I couldn't really have an opening.

You don't need a laptop or an iPad, paper and pen are all you need. But if I had to decide I would tend to the iPad, because you still have the option to keep your notes by hand but you get a lot of additions.

You can move, edit or cut your notes with one click. If you make a mistake in the order, you can simply move the notes to the right place (without rewriting everything).
And best of all, you don't always have to take everything with you, just your iPad and the books for the subjects.
Sometimes publishers have digital textbooks. So you really only have to take the Ipad with you, as the books are on your device.
Of course, it's just a lot smaller and you can't type as quickly.
It is a matter of taste. I personally prefer to work with a laptop or at least a notebook. Since I write a lot, I need a decent keyboard to work.
