Why did my ram decrease?

I have the following problem: I have a laptop that has the Apu Ryzen 5 3500u installed. This Apu therefore takes up 2048 MB Ram as dedicated memory. Since yesterday I noticed that I only have 5.5 GB of Ram available instead of 5.9 GB of Ram. Since I suspected that there might be a virus in the RAM, I restarted Windows 10 and used a Tron script beforehand. It turns out I didn't have a virus. Unfortunately, this did not solve my problem. Do you have any ideas how I can increase the RAM to 5.9 GB again?

If you have had the processor for a long time, it may well be that it loses its performance due to old age.

You could close any background processes and set only important processes running in the background that are necessary to maintain the operating system.

I always suggest to people, "If you want a light, fast, and not really different operating system, get a free Linux Mint. It's not really different from Windows only Linux-based but you can get used to this change."

Thank you for your quick answer, it really helped me.

This is normal depending on the Windows 10 version. In contrast to the first versions, Windows 10 now creates copies of its own processes. This is supposed to ensure that the infected processes are disinfected / closed faster in the event of a virus attack.

In addition, you shouldn't be so meticulous about memory size. 1GB is not 1000 MB but 1024 MB due to the binary system. Thus, depending on rounding up or down in the respective categories, display sizes arise where you could think that something is wrong.

Windows 10 is indeed a resource hog. Therefore I still use Windows 7 (also thanks to the simpler deactivation of the updates).

To get more RAM out, you can just deactivate unnecessary programs at system start-up or buy a suitable RAM module for your laptop and double your memory. (If there's still a slot free)

Thanks for your words, it was probably just a display error because the normal amount of RAM (5.9GB) was displayed again after a reboot. I had already considered switching to Linux, but unfortunately my favorite game Rainbow Six Siege is not available there and so it is canceled. Still, thank you very much and have a nice day.
