I have a Tascam DR-05 (without X) and would like to use it as a conference microphone (for Skype etc.). This mic has a line-out jack. On the PC, I can simply plug it into the line-in jack and it works. But there's only a four-pin combination socket on the laptop, I think it can't do a line-in (improves me if I'm wrong).
So I thought of an external USB sound card. However, this is a question of price. I don't need absolute hi-fi sound, but it should sound pretty good.
Unfortunately I have no idea which sound card I need there
Something like that: https://amzn. To / 2x3YMho
Or do I need this: https://amzn. To / 2U18QAZ
Or do I even need this: https://amzn. To / 33rXHw3
Or something completely different?
ATTENTION - There's a space in the links, because I can only insert one link… Just copy / paste and then the space is gone.
I know these are all very cheap options, but is that enough?
If the quality doesn't matter, why not a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter? You should normally be able to use the combo jack as a microphone input.
What does a 3.5 to 2.5 adapter bring me? The laptop can't line in (mic shouldn't be a problem, but my mic doesn't support it), the cable fits. I would therefore need an external USB sound card, just do not know which one.
Sorry I've read out, don't need a change of size - look for the adapter: https://www.amazon.de/...075WV6HD2/
But this adapter only has mic level and no line level if I'm not mistaken… As far as I know I need a converter or a USB sound card - only which ones?
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
You should be able to go directly into the input of your computer without complex intermediation.
But the computer has no line-in, only a combination plug at mic level and not at line level.
Turn the level control down until you have an undistorted signal.
How do I change this? I don't even get a signal on the laptop. I don't see a microphone when I connect it. Not even in the device manager. I'm on Windows.
Maybe your condenser mic needs. A supply voltage? Then check out Music Store under Phantom Power Devices; You get the vin fame for around € 20. Think of the right cables and plugs!
How about the little sound cards I suggested? I don't need stereo, but wouldn't it be possible? At least the third variant promises line-in…
Very good! But then you should at least take a Steinberg UR12, UR22, which costs around € 100.
It's safe - but isn't it cheaper too? How about the three little sound cards that I suggested? I know, no stereo and no great quality like with the Steinberg, but I don't need that either. I just need a signal.
I have been using a similar device for years, whether mono or stereo recording does not play a major role. If you want to transmit the signal to the computer cleanly, without noise, you need a good interface.
