PC setup okay (idea, university)?

I had the idea to build a new setup for my desk and had the following idea:

A tablet with a keyboard and pen that I can take with me if I study outside the home. When I'm at home, I connect it to a monitor that is also connected to a keyboard and mouse

I really have kp of such things, therefore only marked as an idea… So kp which cables or whether I need hardware or nothing works without a computer, because I actually only need the screen as an "enlargement". It would be nice if someone could give some tips. I think such a setup would be cheaper than buying a $ 800 + convertible / notebook

Depending on the tablet, the problem may arise that you can't present (e.g. During presentations). At least I have had this problem reported by some students with an iPad + Zoom setup.

Should actually be possible. To be on the safe side, I will ask when buying, thank you.

If they do not study permanently and around the clock, it is not "students" but students.

You can do that with a surface and docking station.

I would recommend a Surface and a Docking.

In my opinion, 800 euro are a bit tight for that. (I'm assuming new prices)

Alright thanks. Yes, that will be really expensive, especially because the Surface can easily shoot over 800 on its own

Your project is technically possible.

Possible tablets such as the Galaxy Tab S7 (+), iPad Pro or Surface Go / Pro support the connection of a monitor, mouse and keyboard.

Even if the devices mentioned can control an external monitor, the benefit gained is with the respective tablets.

You will probably get the worst support with the iPad. I have no practical experience, but that is my level of knowledge. As far as I know, there's no desktop mode either.

It works a bit better on Android and especially with Samsung, but still not perfect. Samsung offers its own desktop mode (DeX). Since only selected apps are adapted for tablets and desktop operation, it doesn't run that great either.

There's not much to say about the Microsoft Surface Tablets. You have a complete Windows 10, which you know e.g. From the desktop. But I would rate the use in tablet mode as not that great. Windows has its roots in the desktop PC.

You need a USB Type-C hub for this. There you have e.g. HDMI, USB Type-A or another Type-C for charging.

In addition to the hub, you need a Type-C charger, which should support Power Delivery. Depending on the tablet, it is already included in the scope of delivery. Otherwise you will need an HDMI cable to connect to the monitor.

Thanks for the detailed answer. All of that added up will probably be very expensive. Then maybe I should switch to a laptop or convertible.

Since you are so well versed in the field: is there a special model that you could recommend to me? E.g. Dell looks very appealing
