Since my notebook has been greased after the battery runs out, I have been missing 2 partitions (uefi and c are still there) and I just wanted to install windows over it with a win stick and keep my programs,… However, this is "not available" after I have selected the type of installation on the stick. Is there another way for me to install Win over it or do I have to completely reinstall it?
In this case, a new installation is necessary. Normally you shouldn't miss any partitions after a "crash". Something must be wrong (e.g. Virus or a defect).
You can't install Windows "above" anyway, can you?
Either you get the old thing on it "repaired" (via system image, repair data medium, etc.) or you have to completely reinstall it… Or am I wrong
It seems strange to me but I checked again with a linux and diskpart on the stick and there was nothing more hard drive, cpu and ram it seems to be going well so I will win and simply reinstall all programs now… Also no end of the world. Setting up the notebook is long overdue anyway:-)
Theoretically, it works if you select in the options that you want to boot from CD or stick. But this is not really beneficial, because Windows then renames the old Windows folder during installation and creates a new one. That is why a complete new installation is always better.
How about if you don't switch to Linux right away? Ubuntu is actually a fairly entry-level distribution. The rest you have to teach yourself. There are good counterparts to certain Windows programs and some can also be used alone with PlayOnLinux or Wine. Many games can be played with Lutris and Steam Play, even if it sometimes does a little extra work.
