Where can I buy a Windows 10 Pro key and what are OEM keys?

Can I also use my PC's key for my laptop without Microsoft noticing?

En

You can of course buy Win 10 Pro anywhere (hardware retail, online and etc.), but at the z. T. Single-digit prices are OEM licenses.

Mo

You can link a key to your Microsoft account and then use it for multiple devices, provided you link Windows on the device with this account (you can do this with every Windows installation and in the settings)

You can get keys cheaply here:

but they only work with "Windows 10 Pro", not with "Windows 10 Pro N" and not with "Windows 10 Home" or anything else.

I have already bought 3 licenses from the dealer, one for me, two for my friends' PCs. All worked, only once I accidentally installed the Windows 10 Home version, because entering the key did not work afterwards!

Dr

Windows 10 Home Version installed, because entering the key no longer worked afterwards!

Yes, just not with the normal product key input. All you had to do was open the Windows Store app, then look for Windows 10 Pro there, enter the key and that would be it after a restart. 😉

Ah okay, good to know, but it was my second system anyway, which I had previously set up incorrectly. So it was not bad and with SSD the installation works anyway

By the way, OEM is intended for system builders, but according to EU law, it can also be sold to consumers for whom the retail keys are actually intended.

Only volume keys, which are often the cheap ones on eBay (even if OEM or retail is inside), can't be used legally, but Microsoft will not pursue them if they are misused

Dr

OEM licenses are licenses that were originally only intended for original equipment manufacturers. However, only the retail versions were actually intended for normal end customers. However, after Microsoft lost a lawsuit in 2000, OEM licenses can also be sold to end customers.

With a retail version you basically only get extended support, colorful hard case packaging and the booklet. Also usually two data carriers with both system architectures (32 and 64 bit) are included. But you can do without it and would always buy the cheaper OEM version.

However, if you want to be on the safe side, you should only buy from a trusted dealer. I can only advise against eBay; because unfortunately God's volume licenses are offered there that are not intended for (re) sale. Especially as a layperson or DAU, you can quickly fall on your nose and pay extra if the worst comes to the worst.

But with the z. T. Single-digit prices are OEM licenses.

The single-digit prices are usually not OEM but volume licenses. Exactly these are not intended for resale. Therefore, you should always look very carefully at what and where you buy something.

Since the BGH ruling in 2000, OEM licenses can also be sold directly to end customers. Because of this verdict, Hackintoshs are not illegal, as long as you have legally purchased the operating system from Apple. 😉

are not legally usable, but Microsoft will not pursue them if they are misused

In the worst case, pay twice. Ergo you can also buy a license from a trustworthy dealer. It is better to spend 10 euro more than standing there later like a wet poodle.

Te

Why is the key at hardware rate so cheap compared to lizengo and license fox?

Dr

I can't tell you for sure, but some retailers can buy licenses at different (better) terms. All three are German dealers.

Mo

Nice addition, thank you ^^

Microsoft will of course notice the double use of the license. It is effective how the customer and the usage of the licenses from the USA is tracked.

Possibly (and if you mainly use the computer to do office and web activities) you don't need a lean payment window. Download the Linux Mint Cinnamon ISO file, which can be installed free of charge and without any payment key, account requirement and the other Microsoft disadvantages and can be used permanently for free. LibreOffice, Thunderbird, secure browser FF, VLC and many other important programs are included as a full version free of charge. On my computers, I have bowled MS out and drive much better with mint. I also don't want an OS anymore that needs a performance-consuming antivirus scanner to survive - Linux is much more advanced.

I'm not familiar with Linux. I heard that is more suitable for programming languages. I'm using Windows. I have now bought a key that seems to work.

Damn it, and thanks for freshening it up.

Linux is more universal and better equipped than Windows. A complete LibreOffice is included free of charge as a full version. The operation is almost exactly like Win7 - look at the picture. Under Linux a "license key" is not needed for anything. Under "Mint Download" you will find the ISO file from Mint Cinnamon free of charge for download for live use and installation. How the ISO file is written on a USB pen (with Etcher or Rufus) is well described there, YouTube also has simple instructions on the most popular Linux. Simply boot from the USB pen you created, the Linux desktop will appear and all programs are now fully usable. When installing, click "Install" on the desktop and "Install next to Windows" is sufficient for an additional operating system on the computer.

The picture and the German short description of the free mint is on: https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=major
