What are the common benchmark tools? I just want to compare my old laptop with my new pc for fun.
Find one (or two) programs that require cpu and gpu, respectively. Must run on MacOs and Windows.
It is most realistic if you simply use real applications. Many benchmarks use synthetic workloads, which often gives results that are not quite realistic.
For CPU and RAM, for example, stop the time it takes to process a video in a video program or how long it takes to compress a large file. Of course, the same software must then be used on both systems.
For the GPU you can see the frame rates in games.
Otherwise, 3DMark is a pretty solid benchmark, especially for GPUs.
