Why is Microsoft so nice and generous to your customers?

Recently my grandmother (80 years old) asked me to upgrade her 3 year old PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10. After some research I found the tip that this would be possible with the so-called Media Creation Tool for free (!). I downloaded this tool and ran it on your PC. After about 2 hours (in which you only had to confirm a couple of times "ok" and "yes"), then the upgrade was finished and it came the confirmation, that the procedure was successful. I could hardly believe it and in There's now black on white: "Windows 10 Home" and the ID is different than under Win7 Otherwise, all software and hardware works flawlessly and optically, almost nothing has changed. How is that possible? As if Mercedes would introduce a new, better engine to customer cars for free! Bill Gates is known as a benefactor, but is this also true for Microsoft? Why are you so kind and give away the new operating system version? Market is about 150 euro cost) Or is there a catch that makes later noticeable? Is the upgraded Win10 less good than the Win10, which one buys with a PC or laptop with?

re

This only applies to people who already own Windows 7, and only limited. Microsoft does not really "give away" its operating system.

This is less generosity but customer loyalty. This is an attempt to prevent customers from switching to the competition.

This update works only for Windows 7 and Windows 8. If you have an older version of Windows, you still have to buy Windows 10.

Question: Why does your 80 year old grandmother want to hire a new operating system now? Win 7 is great. The upgrade would not have needed it.

To the question: That was a reaction to the fact that all were super dissatisfied with the previous version (Win 8 and 8.1). To appease the people then Win 10 for Win 7 and Win 8 users released for free. As far as I know, that should not be possible for a long time, but the tool to download the upgrade for free is still available. But only tolerated and is not officially.

Because A 7 is set in 2020, security = 0

I've always got OS updates from Apple for free. Only at the Hhomework transition from PowerPC to Intel gabs an interruption.

You do not have to find things that are obvious.

Thanks for the information. Upgrade to Win10 because support for Win7 will be discontinued in January 2020!

Je

Oh, I actually did not notice!

No

Yes that's nice, not so nice, that you still have to constantly buy. If support for Win7 ends, this form of upgrade will not work.
