I have a problem that I don't know what to do with.
I have a 400Mbit / s Unitymedia line. For a few weeks now, I have had very different bandwidths on the desktop computer in various applications. Starting with Google Chrome. There the speed test shows about 180 Mbit / s. With Firefox, however, 430 Mbit / s arrive. On Steam, the download still gives a maximum of 30 Mb / s (240 Mbit / s), but rather below that, battle.net Launcher normally comes to the full speed of 50 Mb / s (400 Mbit / s), today in KB / s area (but can also be due to the server) …
On the laptop in the Wi-Fi, however, the 400Mbit / s (at 5 GHz) also arrive with Chrome…
I no longer understand that.
What I did:
Cable exchanged (unfortunately I have no other network card…)
Unity media router reset
Replaced on the router Ethernet port
New driver installed (for network adapter and chipset)
Virus scan successfully completed
Windows firewall deactivated
All ethernet devices separated from the router
Edit:
Windows update to 1909
Other speed test (nperf.com)
Amazingly, the other speed test flips the results from Firefox and Chrome. This time Firefox is the slower one. But both still a lot slower than on the laptop (with Chrome).
Anyone have an idea without reinstalling Windows?
How old is the BIOS?
Speed tests are always such a thing… That the downlink currently fluctuates extremely with various providers is simply due to the heavy load.
But it was also the case long before the crisis. Speed test by OOkla with the same server and a short time interval between the tests of Chrome and Firefox. And always with the same result. Chrome does not come over 180 Mbit / s…
OOkla's test has abated somewhat. I don't even come close to the values that other tests bring to my line. Try that: https://www.nperf.com/de/. Can also be a corner in the browser. Some of them are somewhat different
Is up to date, at least according to the advertisement in Asus' UEFI.
Which Windows version (build)?
Surprisingly, I have the values of 3 alternating tests with this speed test:
Chrome: 230 Mbps
Firefox: 150 Mbps
Laptop Chrome: 432 Mbit / s
Operating system name: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
OS Version: 10.0.18362 n / a Build 18362
Operating system manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
Is that 1809 or 1903 or 1909?
1903
Please update to 1909. And all other Windows updates at the same time.
I did it, but unfortunately no difference…
Do these fluctuations occur with LAN and WLAN?
Laptop in WLAN gets full speed, PC in LAN has different values for Chrome and Firefox…
In the LAN, the speed fluctuates between 230 - 280 Mbit / s
