HDDs have motors and mechanical moving parts, and they are the slowest component.
HDD in the notebook: slow (really slow), crash-prone fall down once or stupidly come - all data away
SSD: 10x faster than a normal HDD, even more than a notebook HDD, absolutely shockproof (can throw your notebook from the third floor and the data is still there), and silently.
For your important photos and videos you certainly want any backup solution anyway. Ideal would be 2 external panels, one permanently connected and the other in another apartment, e.g. To have security against fire or water damage.
