I have a piano and judging by the connections it is midi capable. I don't know which cable I need and how to connect it. So I know that xlr cables transmit better quality but I want to connect it to my laptop ergo usb and I don't know if there's xlr on usb and if that's what I need. A couple of links will be awesome
Do you want to transmit the sound or the note data?
XLR is only for sound, MIDI only for note data (no sound, only "Note XX on / off" etc.)
You definitely need an interface if you want to connect it to the pc.
XLR is only for sound
Tell that to an illuminator…
Do you use that there too?
I only know XLR from sound engineering.
DMX signal cable e.g… But I don't even see XLR in the picture. ^^ Only 6.3mm jack and 5pin DIN for midi signals… 😁
What's this
Both would be good
An external sound card which you connect to your pc via usb in order to be able to use midi signals of the external instrument in your software.
An interface cable from 5-pin MIDI In + Out to USB. So there's for 15-20 euro.
Then you need an audio / midi interface. There you connect the two MIDI cables and the audio cables (just ask again here) and the interface comes to the computer via USB.
How much can / do you want to spend on it?
Just to clarify why you need something like this: Laptops have no midi input at all, and the audio input is far too poor in quality.
An interface has good audio quality and then forwards the whole thing digitally via USB to the laptop.
Is xlr not a medium to synchronize light and sound or to coordinate with each other? In the area I really have no idea.
Audio interface should have at least 2 input channels so that you can record it stereo.
I have no idea about the prices
nothing should be too expensive for now
From approx. 85 euro upwards and no Behringer. Then you should be right. Look at Thomann.
