Tipped coke over laptop keyboard?

Yesterday I didn't just run a bit of Cola Zero on the keyboard of my Thinkpad E495. I tilted it forward then turned it off and tilted it at right angles to dry it on the windowsill.

And your question? You will have to see for yourself whether it still works and to disappoint you: No guarantee.

You might be lucky thinkpad are often water-resistant so that only your keyboard could be dead

Ab

Disassemble and see where everything is Cola. If you're lucky, it's only on the keyboard. You can try to save them by bathing them in alcohol. Spirit should be the cheapest for this.

If there's cola in other places, same procedure. Try to get it all away with alcohol.

Perhaps in addition:
If you have no experience in electronics, get someone on board who does. That would be better… And safer.

Nostalgic:
In the 80s, the joystick test by Markt & Technik Verlag always included the infamous "Cola test", which tested whether the device still worked after a Cola shower.
This is simply not done nowadays - especially not with laptops. 🤪

After Cola nothing works anymore. The keyboard's scissors alone are likely to be stuck together in such a way that the keyboard will be unusable for the time being.

Cola kills the periphery more by its adhesive effect than by short circuits.

De

Cola Zero really bad.

Try to see if it boots up. And if the keyboard sticks, then hopefully you will take it to a professional for cleaning.

Di

So Flauski right now? As I said, it happened yesterday and I was advised to let it dry for two more days.

Ab

The sooner the better. Waiting is the biggest mistake. Oxidation is the enemy and the enemy is not waiting.

Di

Ok how often have you faced such situations? And yes, I've heard that too

Di

Do you know how exactly the keyboard can be opened on this model (E495)?

Di

I don't even know where to start, and I don't have a trustworthy person to ask

Ra

Switch on…

Where does this urge to bring everything to supposed professionals come from? Most of these repair shops are amateurs who have stuck a sign on the outside of their shop.

Ab

Are you liable for any consequential damage caused by your "advice"?

Fortunately, i only used it twice as a child, but i know the thinkpads very well
