Does the cre only install from the cd or do you always have to insert it to play?

I would like to get The Crew 2 at Saturn but have no drive in my Nine PC but only in my laptop on which the game would not run. Now my question is if I can install The Crew 2 on my laptop and if it will be activated on Steam so that I can download it on my new PC or if I have to insert the CD as with the PlayStation whenever I want to play.

If the game is activated via Steam, you only need the CD for installation and then you can start it on Steam.
