Kali Linux And Windows (System Restore)?

I downloaded Kali Linux from their website, then ran the installation file, canceled it and deleted it again. Now I always get the message that I have to. Select operating system when I start the PC. Does that go away when I reset the system, what is all gone? Do I still have normal Windows on the laptop then or how?

Ev

The boot loader was shot when the installation was canceled.

with a Windows setup DVD you can try to repair the master boot record from a command prompt. Otherwise you have to set up Windows from scratch.

In the case of a new installation, all of the data is also lost.

With a Linux LiveCD you can still back up the data in an emergency

Ev

Yep - that works.

I have now downloaded the (I think the correct file) from the Microsoft website. There's also no longer an error message that Windows is not working. But at the beginning there's still the boot selection between Windows and Linux. How can I fix it so that Linux is gone?

Ev

Start up the computer with a Windows setup DVD, start the command prompt and then repair the master boot record.

Then you have an unknown, former Linux partition in the disk management, which you can give a new drive letter to.

Um, maybe you can explain that exactly. So what exactly do I have to do? I don't have a DVD drive on my laptop. I loaded this Windows setup on a stick.

Ev

Start the PC via the stick and then open the command prompt.

Instructions for repairing the MBR can be found online.
