How do I make an old notebook disposable if it does not turn on?

One should not simply dispose of his notebooks in this way on the basis of the data, but first make everything flatten.

I recently "recovered" my old notebook and would like to dispose of it now. However, it can't be switched on, battery and charging cable are broken.

How can I flatten all sensitive data or maybe transfer old pictures and documents to another medium?

Unfortunately, I'm not very tech-savvy.

Unscrew, remove the hard drive, hand over the device without a hard disk to the recycling center.

Unscrew, remove hard drive. Then either connect the hard drive somewhere else and get down data, or just with the hammer firm druff.

Then but everything properly dispose of electronic scrap! Not in the trash!

That sounds simpler than expected.

Thank you!

If you want to dispose of the hard disk: Take a drill and drill several holes in it. Then the data is destroyed too.

And for about 5-10 euro you get on Amazon empty hard drive housing in the you can then install the plate and continue to use as a normal external hard drive

The removed hard disk you can then, for example. Connect to another PC / laptop with a dedicated adapter or HDD docking station to access the data. So you can transfer images and documents to another medium.

Remove the hard drive and install it in an ICY box or a "USB HDD enclosure", which costs about 10 euro. You then have a mobile USB disk that you can easily access - just plug it into a USB port.

If you can also plug it into a PC, unplug its internal disk, then you can boot from a Linux Mint DVD (download at linuxmint.com for free) and install Mint on this disk - it's done in 30 minutes and it's good for beginners because like XP.

In the future, you can boot up and use any machine from the disk with a safe and well-equipped Linux via the boot menu (ESC key, F12 or as mentioned in the manual).
