Laptop or tablet for medical studies?

I will soon start my studies in Gießen and would like to know what you could recommend me for the lectures and for working at the desk. I only have an older and very heavy laptop myself and would like to buy a new device for my studies. I would be very grateful if you could advise me on the many possibilities (laptop, tablet, combination device (e.g. Surface Pro)).

In view of the larger screen (graphics, photos) I would prefer a light laptop. However, this is not suitable for a lecture note. You would need something smaller.
