Use old hard disk data?

So I have a question. My laptop was broken the day before yesterday. The data on the hard drive are quite important. So I bought an external HDD case and now I want to connect the HDD to another PC to copy the data to. Is that possible? Because some think you have to format before so delete all data?

"Because some people think you have to format them first, so delete all the data?"

You should feel that's nonsense. Connect and good!

Normally that should work. If the hard drive has a standard connection (SATA), it would have to fit in a standard housing and be readable from another computer.

Formatting is of course the worst thing you could do, all data would be irretrievably gone.

Ju

Different operating systems use different file formats for hard disks / data carriers, which must be readable by all other operating systems. But if the PC uses the same kind of operating system, there should be no problem reading out the hard drive's data.
