I have to get a new laptop for university. I'm studying civil engineering and unfortunately I don't know what a laptop is needed for my degree. I actually wanted to buy a laptop for up to 450 euro, but the seller at Saturn told me that I can forget that, I will probably need one from 600 euro-1000 euro because the programs I will be using will not be cheap Laptops work. Is that correct?

To the civil engineers among you: What kind of laptop do you use and is it really true that I absolutely have to buy an expensive laptop?

It's best to look for a Surface. The best place to look is BackMarket.

How exactly did you come to this assumption?

I study and I absolutely never need a laptop.

So, currently it works, you always meet at home anyway (where you need a desktop pc, I don't know whether the person who asked me has one).

But in the previous semesters I used it many times. Did you just sit down somewhere with the people and work on the task together on the laptop?

What do you study? I'm studying computer science and have a relatively large number of electrical engineering modules, so you definitely need a laptop often. I don't know exactly how it works with my colleagues in civil engineering (we also have that), I don't know so many from the direction.

The 24h computer rooms are currently closed with us, so you definitely need some kind of computer, at least in IT and electrical engineering you can't do without it.

My old one is broken and that's why I need a new one if that's what you mean by your question.
