Ubuntu with Gnome - Touchpad off?

Is there a keyboard shortcut (or can you do without a Linux promotion) to create one with which the touchpad can be switched off?

The background is that the thing on my laptop is so sensitive to moisture that it plays for a while after a single drop of water (if someone shut the screen) and the device is no longer operable.

If I could turn it off by pressing a button then I can use an external mouse until it calms down again.

# Disables the touchpad
synclient TouchpadOff = 1

# Activates the touchpad
synclient TouchpadOff = 0

I assume that this should work, at least under Ubuntu.

Simply create two shortcuts for the two commands using shortcuts. Optionally write a bash script, which checks if the touchpad is set to 1 or 0 and executes the other value.

So to speak, a ToggleTouchpad.sh script, which only allows you to take one instead of two shortcuts.
