Removing a hard drive from an old laptop and connecting it to a PC is that easy?

Have in the basement still a very old laptop and would like out of pure interest just like to see what I think so. There should be a bunch of old pictures on it.

However, the laptop will not start, I'm sure.

So my question: Can I connect the hard drive of my laptop to my current PC somehow and look from there on what is on it?

Connect will be no problem (or depending on how old the thing is and your pc still has appropriate connections )

actually one should be able to search the hard disk then. Maybe system folders (possibly with your own files) can make a problem I'm not sure. But all normal folders have to work flawlessly.

Yes, just connect with a SATA cable + power to it and then it should work if the hard drive is not broken.
But you have to see that the boot order remains as it is in the BIOS, not that your computer is still trying to boot from the old hard drive.

Or if you have a hard drive station connect it.

As soon as you're in Windows, it usually just appears as a normal drive. If not, it probably has no drive letter. Then just go to Disk Management, right-click on the disk and press Add Drive Letter.

Yes, unless the laptop is ancient, you should simply be able to remove the hard drive from the laptop. However, you have to install the hard drive internally in the PC, as this is of course not connected with USB! Accordingly, you need a SATA power connector and a SATA data cable. These connections can also be temporarily removed from your DVD drive, which of course you can then use for a short time.

How to connect a hard drive (fixed you do not have to install it directly) can be found here: For you is relevant only 2.5 inches or 3.5 inches

Can you also save the effort and remove the hard drive from the old laptop and install it in a housing and use it as a foreign hard drive.

Costs extra and takes longer, would be much more effort for me!

So if you do not have multiple external hard drives at home. I certainly already and there's an ext. Plate disassembled quickly and the old plate inside. Then copy the data to the PC and built it back! Finished!

Oh, you want to accomplish that, yes, that's also possible
