I need your help. I was about to get an SSD and put it in my notebook. The goal is to operate the existing HDD in the existing CD drive and connect the SSD instead of the current HDD.
The HDD, I will probably leave unformatted first as a backup. My question is, can I re-enable Windows with the same Key or Digital License? I do not have an installation CD for the device. I would create a bootable USB stick. I just do not want to have to buy a Windows license because I basically have one. The device was originally shipped with Windows 8 and then upgraded to 8.1 and then to Windows 10. Where is the license deposited at all?
Make with the program "Acronis" a 1: 1 copy, then you can save yourself the whole thing. But you can also reinstall everything. Then you either have to have a valid key or buy one. Then you can easily activate over the Internet.
Since your update to Windows 10, you have an online license. Once you install any version of Windows 10 through any medium (DVD, USB, hard disk, etc.) and connect to the Internet, your license will be reactivated as long as it is the same machine. Changing the hard disk or SSD is no problem.
It's supposed to be a cleaninstall on the SSD. Wanted to reuse my valid digital license if possible.
He already had a Windows 10 on the old hard drive. Therefore, he does not need a new key, nor does he need to buy a new license. After installation, Windows 10 finds the old key automatically, or the license on the Microsoft servers.
How this works with the activation / licensing in Windows 10, is explained here: https://support.microsoft.com/...activation
How to download the ISO and create a bootable medium is described here: https://www.microsoft.com/.../windows10
You also get the ISO here: https://winfuture.de/...,3891.html
Here you must make sure to download the right version (32- or 64-bit).
