I have a notebook with a hard drive and want to replace it with an SSD. Simultaneous connection of HDD and SSD to the notebook is possible.
Is it possible to copy / clone the Windows 10 installation from the hard drive to the SSD in order to avoid reinstallation?
If that doesn't work: I don't know the license key for the Win10. How can I reinstall Windows on the SSD anyway?
You can simply buy an external enclosure for the SSD. You can then easily connect this via USB. With Macrium Reflect you can then clone the Hdd to the Ssd.
You can easily clone this with programs like clonezilla and don't have to reinstall Windows ^^
Or with the tool from the SSD manufacturer.
You can read the license key in win10 with the help of tools
Yes, there are programs (or rather other operating systems) that can copy an entire hard disk one-to-one.
I personally use Clonezilla for this (private and at work). It's free and can be started via DVD or USB.
Thank you. I have an external housing. The question is related to whether Windows will run without any problems after cloning.
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
Basically: I would definitely clone / copy because it saves so much time.
I have had good experiences with Samsung SSDs. Samsung provides the https://www.samsung.com/...oad/tools/ for the Samsung SSDs. With it you can simply transfer all data to the new SSD - works like this:
Connect the new SSD to the notebook using https://www.amazon.de/...082HF8C56/ You can also buy https://www.amazon.de/...00KW4T69A/ and use it for it.
Download and install the software, then go to it and start copying.
Then the notebook shuts down and you can swap the hard drive for the SSD.
NB switch it on again and everything should work as before - only much faster ;-)
If you are using an SSD from another manufacturer, you can also use https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree. I have already copied successfully with it - it is perhaps a little more complicated to use…
Clonezilla is awesome! But you have to know your way around and the SSD should be the same size or larger than the hard disk - otherwise it will be complicated…
I have already cloned a lot with Clonezilla, but I would not recommend it to a layman because the operation requires more explanation - but youtube will certainly help there too…
Yes, that's right again… Just because I get along well with it doesn't necessarily mean that everyone gets along well with it 😬
Has worked for me twice with no problems. You only have to clone the entire hard drive (i.e. All partitions).
