Should you always do the updates on Windows?

I have had my new laptop for 2 days and now I can already see that there are updates if I look under Settings -> Updates. It says: Updates available… Your device is missing important security and quality fixes… Should I now press download for all the updates?

Ar

Of course. The security updates are extremely important. All others as needed. You can also do this manually via the Microsoft Update Catalog and inform yourself beforehand about possible problems, e.g. At http://www.borncity.com

Ca

But how can that be after 2 days?

Ja

I wouldn't do optional updates, they usually have strange peculiarities.

I would always do all other updates!

Ca

Where do I see if this is optional?

Ar

Who knows how long there has been without it being reported to you. The second Tuesday of the month is usually the MS patch day. Sometimes something goes out of line when it matters.

Ja

Only with the newest Windows 10 version 1909 (soon the May update will be the newest, so 2004), this will be marked directly with the updates, even if it is older than 1909, it is not above.

Ca

OK thanks. And if I don't see it is optional? So I went to settings for updates and there was just updates available and important safety and quality fixes are missing and warnings are listed below and I can download: . Should I do this?

Ja

I would download it.

Ca

E.g. Windows malicious software removal tool, cumulative update for .NET framework,…

Ja

Jo get you, makes sense

Ca

Can / should one possibly set that the updates take place automatically?

Ja

Well some updates are downloaded automatically, but mostly you have to give your OK when it comes to installing…

So rather less and I would not do it either, what if you work on the PC and then everything is just because Windows is just turning everything upside down?
