Is there a computer virus that can paralyze the screen?

I travel a lot on different websites and in the past I suddenly had a defective screen on several laptops; hence my question.

ab

If you have virus protection like under Windows 10 Defender, this should be an absolute exception.

Can also be a hardware defect.

Aj

But is it theoretically possible?

oy

What do you mean by a defective screen?

ab

Is it unusual that it occurs on several laptops. I don't think so, viruses of the current generation target computing power and spreading spam mail.

Aj

That it remains black after switching on.

Aj

But if you go to the same website with several computers?

ab

Then you should refrain from visiting this website. I'm not surprised that the browser sounds the alarm.

So when you turn it on, the screen is black, doesn't boot up, doesn't show any mail?

Aj

I don't even know which website it was on… I think it's very unlikely anyway.

Aj

Exactly, the screen stays black and nothing else happens.

ab

Comment from support: Have you already reinstalled your operating system and carried out all updates?

Aj

I don't quite understand the question. If nothing happens with the laptop, I can no longer install anything on it.

ab

Sounds like a hardware defect, but since CIH Virus I haven't known anyone who damages the hardware. Search Google for CIH Virus.

For a laptop, I would guess a hardware defect, but for several? I.e. It would be active before booting up.
One scenario would be that he could manipulate your BIOS while shutting down, but have never heard of it.

Aj

Thanks first of all. Definitely helped.
