MAC and Chrome. Does that still work?

For some time now, my MAC has had problems connecting to the Internet. The Wi-Fi and Internet are stable, other devices (cell phone, laptop, TV) have no problems. With the MAC, the connection breaks down again and again, although full bars are displayed. The phenomenon is getting worse week by week. I use Chrome as a browser, which has worked quite well so far. Do you have any tips?

Bi

Nuja… Check the network connection.

As

In your place I would check the internet access. To do this, go to the system settings via the apple icon, then go to "Network". Here you will find an assistant with whom you can easily check whether and where there's a defect.

It can never hurt to provide information, the more the better. Which Mac (not MAC!), Which OS, such as online, LAN or WLAN?

Fo

IMac 21.5 inch, mid-2011, macOS High Sierra, version 10.13.6, Chrome, WLAN What is meant by "how online"?

Fo

Thank you, I'll have a look at it in a moment!

Lu

Standing there, LAN or Wi-Fi. Have you tried it with another browser?

Fo

Yes, Safari for example. But in terms of structure, overview and functions, I like Chrome better. You also read that Chrome should be the best. So far, it has always worked well. But the interruptions are piling up while other devices are permanently connected and working 100%. Has Apple restricted usage? Chrome is no longer supported?

Fo

Is shown as connected, no problems or error message. But I will call it again when the Mac has no connection again.

Bi

Router restart never hurts.

May be that only the connection between Mac and router is gone.

Just have a look when it's as far as you can get from your Mac. Whether only up to the router or on the Internet (Google DNS 8.8.8.8 is always a good choice) as a test target for a ping.

Fo

Wi-Fi is connected, no problems, no error messages. The assistant is hidden behind the "? Button"?

Fo

I added DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (according to a tutorial). Let's see how it works now in the future

Fo

Bi

Sorry, I watch films in the cinema.

Fo

I watch movies in the cinema too, but it's a tutorial. I got there with your tip DNS 8.8.8.8. If you don't know where DNS is hidden and how to change it, that's a pretty good alternative. Google Help has no solution for this.

Bi

Use DHCP. Otherwise, IP settings must always fit into the corresponding network. Velvet gateway and net mask

I'm not a "you"

Lu

We're looking for the source of the error here, not your favorite browser. What does "For example" mean? WHICH browser have you tried? Does the problem occur there?

As

Unfortunately, I don't know High Sierra very well. For me with MacOS 10.11.6 you can see the wizard immediately when you click on "Network".

Fo

Thank you! The problem was probably due to a program that I have to use for further training. It is a kind of "electronic ankle bracelet" that sends a ping at irregular intervals and requests a code to check the presence of the user. The program is probably in a "conflictual" relationship with Chrome. I uninstalled it and so far there has been no browser error.

Fo

Thank you for your answer. The assistant should probably no longer exist. I found the following: https://www.macuser.de/threads/netzwerkassistent-in-os-high-sierra.787710/

Basically, it was probably because the problem was probably with a program that I have to use for further training.
