I'm 16 years old and have a question. My parents earn pretty well. Both together around 2700 euro gross. However, I'm such that if I want something more expensive like a laptop for school, paranoia push that we will go bankrupt or that will be very negative financially. Is that normal? I think I'm the only one who has that. What can I do?
The money belongs to your parents, they work for it every day. You basically lack nothing. You have a roof over your head, a bed to sleep and enough to eat. A laptop is a luxury item so you don't have to buy one. At 16 you can look for a part-time job and save yourself money so that you can buy one yourself.
Both together 2700 euro gross? But that's little. Or do you mean net? I like such thoughts. You think twice before you buy some of the money from others. I think that's already ripe. There's nothing wrong with that.
Especially with school matters there are still options, e.g. To finance your laptop elsewhere.
And to "go broke" basically:
Going for real broke is very unlikely unless your parents have very high debts that they haven't been able to cover for a long time.
But otherwise the motto is in the first place:
There's always a solution.
Hope I could help.
Best wishes and financial freedom!
€ 2,700 gross for a family is not exactly lavish. Your parents definitely have other financial burdens than buying you a laptop.
At 16 years of age you are old enough to look for a small part-time job, and you could use this income to treat yourself to laptops with a little savings.
I can understand that your parents are worried… 2,700 euro is not much at all. Be glad that you still have no idea what has to be paid monthly and have a little understanding. It's certainly not the case that they just don't want to grant you your wishes and talk their way out of it. On the contrary. Saying "no" breaks your parents' heart sometimes. If you want more, you have the option to save (birthday, Christmas or pocket money). Depending on how good and consistent your school performance is, maybe (with the consent of your parents, of course) a student job could be considered… Maybe they would even contribute part of the cost of fulfilling your wish when they see your commitment.
