How can I speed up the startup from the PC?

I "freshened up" my laptop because it took so long to boot up. But unfortunately that didn't work. It still takes a long time (up to 20 minutes!). I checked the hard drive, it is not damaged! What else can I try? In addition, since Windows Office 2013 was removed, I would now like to reactivate it with the corresponding product key. How can I solve this problem?

Have a look in the Task Manager to see which programs are running at autostart.

Ev. Can you deactivate some of them and thus speed up the start.

Jo

Thanks, I've already done it and it still hasn't gotten any better

Throw the HDD out and buy an SSD. Still the prices are really good. They will probably increase in the course of the year.
Then just install Windows and it's good.

Jo

Thanks that will be the best.

I went with my notebook to a small computer shop that I always go to if I have any problems. A "larger" SSD hard drive was installed. Then the PC started up like nothing.

You have moved some programs from the desktop, which probably also brought a lot.

It wasn't expensive either!

Jo

If I get stuck I will consider that.

Microsoft is doing everything possible to effectively hide important things from us. There are 38 start keys in the registry (same function as autostart) in which all programs and malware enter themselves without the Windows user noticing.

With the program Autoruns.exe you can display this:

https://www.giga.de/...-autoruns/

On my laptop, Autoruns showed me six pages full of start entries that were not listed in the Autostart folder.

To the detriment of the Windows user, a program snippet is required to get basic information. Fortunately, there's no such wild growth in the free and better-equipped Linux Mint.
