Ubuntu hangs idle?

I'm not really experienced with Linux. I have an old Compaq laptop that runs Ubuntu 12.04 without any problems. Is an Evo n800w.

Now I found an old processor today. Pentium 4 2.4Ghz sl6d7

I checked which one has my LP and it is the same series etc.

've changed because the Lp has only 2.2 ghz.

Built-in switched on and running. Well, halfway. If I play a Vid right away, everything works but as soon as the LP has been idle for a while the system freezes. The new CPU is from an old desktop. Are there any energy-saving settings in conflict? Otherwise it runs at full capacity. The "new" Cpu is decapitated so that it fits in.

Ever thought of upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04? Or at least the kernel?

That would be counterproductive. The isptop is too weak to bebite with unity and is then practically useless. I have no idea how to update a kernel

Unity has been gone since Ubuntu 16.04 or so. If your lappi is so bad, use xubuntu or kubuntu.

Ah okay. So that's just in between. Good to know. I'll see if I can get the latest ubuntu on it. The lp absolutely doesn't get along with 3d. Well thank you first. Maybe my problem will be solved
