Thermal Compound Laptop GPU

I replaced the 10-year-old thermal compound on both the CPU and the GPU of my old laptop. The CPU is significantly cooler and the laptop is also significantly faster, but I probably made a mistake with the GPU because it now overheats under load and the laptop shuts off (from 90 degrees). How exactly do you apply the thermal paste there? (please do not rant). As a paste I have MX-4.

There's actually more than enough thermal paste on it. The pressure just has to be strong enough, i.e. Tighten the screws firmly enough.
