Is it true that newer PC / laptops, such as Ryzen 5, Intel i5, and faster, Linux does not work?

You can't install it. That was the testimony of someone from a well-known large online laptop / PC sales portal. It was about whether you could install Linux / Mint on a laptop that comes without an operating system.

Why shouldn't it work? I could install Windows XP on my PC here (but I don't because XP is only good for memes, otherwise nothing else)

Sw

So XP could cause problems because of the drivers.

Fr

You can't say that, at least not generally. Newer computers with UEFI have SecureBoot, which does not allow a "corrupted" (different) image. This would have to be deactivated, which is possible in most cases.

Sw

If they are sold without a system - i.e. Explicitly without Windows - it must be possible to deactivate Secure Boot. Otherwise it makes no sense at all.

As

It's not about the drivers

Sw

Maybe it could lead to you not getting a picture. Don't know if something has changed so dramatically lately. Wouldn't actually suspect it either.

As

I still have my old brick from 2007 and xp running, in contrast to YT videos in 720p 60 (stressful)

Ve

It is sold with FreeDos.
The hard disk is partitioned and this "operating system" runs on the small one, but you should uninstall it beforehand. Or simply format the whole hard disk.
Which would also be interesting if you make two partitions, one Linux on the other Windows 10.

Sw

FreeDos is not a serious system. Therefore "no system".
Dual boot should also work. Do not know why new CPUs should have problems with it.

Sw

Of course, XP has drivers for old hardware. It's about new hardware.

And try Lubuntu or something. Have a laptop from 2003 or so and YT runs at 720p 60 (with tricks) :)
And you have current security patches.
All with 500mb ram.

Ik but somehow the laptop is not in the mood for the usb stick

I wanted to do it already

It is the following HP laptop:

https://www.notebooksbilliger.de/...c/lastseen

there's nothing from SecureBoot.

see for yourself what the employee of this page answers under questions + a comment in the customer reviews where someone already describes that Linux is not installable due to alleged processor errors.

ch

No, that's nonsense.

Sw

It helped me: https://www.plop.at/de/bootmanager/plpbt.bin.html
Basically a boot manager that supports booting from a USB stick.
Alternatively, stop CD / DVD
