Which laptop should I buy? Gaming, video editing / Linux dual boot?

I want to buy a new laptop up to a maximum of 1100 euro.

I mainly need it for my work (Wordpress) but would also like to play something from u. Doesn't want to play AAA titles, I'm more of a casual gamer and may want to edit videos from and to.

I've already done a lot of research, but since I don't really have much idea, I thought, maybe. Is someone so nice to help me.

I use Linux almost exclusively, but I also want Windows because not all games are compatible with Linux. So far I've only had Lenovos and have always been very satisfied. Actually, I had already decided on the Lenovo Legion 5, but then I read that it causes problems with Linux.

Would possibly also buy a cheaper one without an OS and then also a Windows license. The same applies to upgrades of RAM and memory, should not exceed the total of 1100 euro.

I'll put in the following links to the laptops I've selected so far. I live in Greece, so these are Greek links but the technical data is in English so should be understandable for most.

Would be very grateful for any help!

You can bend a gaming laptop to a large extent anyway and if you really want to do that you will need a lot more money.

Ra

Gaming laptops are really not good, you'd better buy a good ultrabook and organize a place with a cloud gaming provider for demanding games.

Aw

Nope

St

Thanks for the answer. But that's enough for me. Just want to play every now and then and maybe do video editing. I don't need anything more expensive, it's incredibly expensive and powerful compared to what I've otherwise had in my life. And it should definitely be portable, so not a tower

Can I put a flea in your ear?

If you get the Wish app or Ali Express or BangGood on your smartphone, you can look for Asian models that are only sold at hardware prices. The brands that are offered here in Germany are really just names that have to be paid for. On the other hand, an Asian no-name laptop is often equipped with better hardware for the same price.

Find an English savvy who will sit down with you.

And if you are a schoolchildren, trainee or student, get a school certificate and look at online student shops, the discounts are often unbeatable!

wi

Wait a few years then you will switch from laptop to fixed like everyone who has tried it.

My friend has a legion and is very happy with it. What only bothers me is that the FN keys are always active. Since I work a lot with F1-12, that wouldn't be for me. For am and to play it is bearable.

li

At Wish, you can be happy if a laptop arrives at all.

St

Uh I think Wish and Ali Express are the last providers I would buy a laptop from ^^

Aw

I have a good gaming pc and laptop myself

Gr

Has nothing to do with Wish, you also have to research the retailer who sells there.

Gr

I bought a tablet PC there for € 80, which under the brand name would have cost € 189 in Germany. When it started for the first time, Google Play eliminated the Asian Trojan. Two three updates and now everything is very easy.

By the way, Asian Trojans are just as harmless as European and American ones ;-)

Due to the possibly problematic hardware support under Linux, I recommend a notebook that is intended by the manufacturer for use with Linux. If you wish, you can also get Windows preinstalled here as a dual boot. Take a look e.g. Here:

https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/

St

Thanks, the site is really interesting!

ro

I've been using such a notebook with Linux for 5 years. I never had any problems.

St

To be honest, I almost decided on tuxedo, so thanks again. I'm just unsure whether the Aura 15 or the Pulse 14

St

Or more precisely, if you have another tip:

Pulse 14 - AMD Ryzen 7 4800H (8x 2.9-4.2GHz eight-core, 16 threads, 12 MB cache, 45 W TDP) + 16 GB RAM + 500 GB NVMe PCIe hard drive

Aura 15 - AMD Ryzen 7 4700U (8x 2.0-4.1GHz eight-core, 8 threads, 12 MB cache, 15 W TDP) + 16 GB RAM + 250 GB M.2. SATAII possibly also NVMe

The 4800H will only be in stock from the end of February + 3 weeks of production, so it would have to wait a while.

ro

The Aura 15 should be interesting if you want the longest possible battery life due to the lower power hunger.

The Pulse 14 has a bit more CPU and GPU performance and more permanent storage but a slightly smaller display.

It will depend on your main application areas. What are you mainly planning to do with the device?

ro

By the way, both models are not suitable for gaming.

St

Thanks. Yes, I can choose the better hard drive with the Aura, because it's cheaper, with the Pulse it would exceed my budget. I think I will choose the Pulse, even if I have to wait a while until the AMD 4800H is back in stock.
