Play movie on computer. Difference DVD / CD?

Re

From me as a PC layman the following question to the specialists:

I want to play a movie on my computer. The movie is only available on DVD. I do not know if my laptop has a DVD or CD drive installed.

How can I tell which drive is installed?

Can I play both disks in the drive or do I need a separate drive for each?

Try it out. Take a DVD that you already own and use it as always in the drive. If nothing happens, it is not suitable for DVD's.

In the Explorer, right-click to show all drives with the mouse (show all orders), to show properties for the CD / DVD (?) Drive, if it is not even displayed directly

Is not that in Explorer or in the Control Panel what you have?
Or on the folding / drawer of the drive.
If laptop is not very old, a DVD drive should be installed.

A CD drive can only play CDs.
A DVD drive can play both (at least that was the case with my previous computers).

There are hardly any laptops that can't play DVDs, but BlueRays can't play all of them. If you can play DVDs, then CDs…

If your laptop has an optical drive, then it can also play DVDs. Since he would have to be ancient (not really usable), so he can't do that.
