Is there a difference with USB cables?
Yes size of the plug and speed of charging including the length of the cable. Everything is clear to me there.
I'm actually concerned with the following problem: I recently wanted to load something from my computer / laptop onto my cell phone (MP3 and PDF files). My (regular) charging cable broke a few weeks ago. So I looked for another one. When I connected it to both devices it just loaded and didn't open the menu. By menu I mean: "load, data to computer, mass storage or similar options". This menu always appeared on my cell phone and I selected x and then it went smoothly. That day I was finished and looked for at least 5 cables in the house until it worked with one. For the others, I couldn't open the menu, better said it wasn't shown to me.
Now my question: are there any differences?
There are cables that have no data pins but only supply electricity. But it is strange that you have several of them at home… I think that is not provided for in the USB standard, but I already had a cable myself
Maybe you got a "cell phone" charging cable? These really only load
otherwise you would have to say what you have.
In addition to the charge-only cables already mentioned, there are also broken wires in the cables (preferably at the kinks on the plugs), contamination on the contacts, loose contacts (especially on mechanically stressed sockets on the cell phone - I have a splendid specimen where I do has to push the plug in a very specific direction since the device landed on the plug a few times while charging), kinks / loose contacts in the sockets (especially on the cell phone - I suspect mine here) and the like. A.
It also happens that a device and a cable simply can't work together. The device works fine with another cable, as does the cable with another device, but neither works together. That shouldn't happen, but it does anyway. More detailed explanations require a digression into signal transmission.
At some point my father gave me the idea / thought that it is harmful for the cell phone to use a cable from another company. As it turned out shortly afterwards, my father only used the USB socket adapter. When that was clear, I just took the best cable. This broke shortly afterwards. You did not want to show how often the original USB cable was glued with hot glue. And now I just had the problem.
Maybe I just have to buy a USB cable in Saturn or something similar. Lock it in the self and get out only for data history / data exchange with computer. I think that will be the best solution.
