Notebook purchase: what processor?

I currently want to buy a new laptop and therefore compare. I would now like to know from you how good Amd processors are. Especially the Ryzen 5 3500U.

I will use the computer mainly for office applications, but also for geographical information systems like ArcGis or QGis and the statistics program R. I know that intel core i5 from the 6th generation run great with it.

So which Ryzen processors are an option for me? Or should I rather stay with intel?

Pi

In principle, Core i5 6th generation and Ryzen 5 3rd generation are on a similar level, but it depends very much on the actual processor.

The Core i5 6xxx is available in dual-core as well as quad-core versions and faster and slower models.

For example, a Core i5-6600 is significantly more powerful than a Ryzen 5 3500U, a Core i5-6200U significantly worse than a Ryzen 5 3500U

Ok, that helps me a lot! With the Intel processor core i5 I meant the 6300U. I guess it is at least not better than the Ryzen?

Pi

No. It's even a lot worse than the Ryzen. The comparison platforms userbenchmark.com are good indicators
