The description is far too imprecise to be able to help you, because nowadays you have to enter your email in 100 places to be allowed to do something.
You probably use Thunderbird or another e-mail program and the account there has the name of your father. You only customized the email and not the account owner.
Is that a Mac or a Windows PC?
Where was the email address? "on it" is so imprecise. What do you use to send emails? With an email program or from the operator's website
An email address has nothing to do with the laptop itself.

Windows Pc. Email was in the Windows Email app. I send emails with the windows app.
Is it more about your father's Microsoft account? You can assign many email addresses to this account, but your father remains the owner of the Microsoft account. If you don't want it that way, you have to create a Microsoft account yourself and create it on your computer. And you then have to log in to your computer with your Microsoft account
