My laptop was making strange noise before and now my hard drive is no longer displayed?

Hi

This noise sounded like a critter was nibbling on the line, it crackled in front of my laptop and now I notice that my hard drive is not showing me anymore. What happened? What can I do.

Ch

That does not sound good. Probably one of the dreaded "headcrashes", d. H. The read-write head has "landed" on the disk (usually hovering a few hundredths of a millimeter above it) and has chipped off a piece of magnetic layer.

Hopefully you have a backup of your data! Otherwise, only a professional data rescuer can help - but that costs at least in the three-digit range.

Also possible, but less likely: anything on the motherboard is "smoky".

Has something unusual happened with the laptop immediately before - a fall, a strong wobble?

In principle, if you know a little about laptops, you could try the disk in another laptop. But this may reduce the proportion of data that can still be saved.

Or / and you try another laptop plate in your device.

I would ask the trusted computer dealer (this is not a stingy expert) what that might be and what it does best.

Hi

Yes, I hit the laptop sometimes because it hangs from me… It's like that lately I always boot over another operating system via a USB and otherwise could not access the hard disk anymore. Now I did not try to boot up normally without the USB stick says to me in English something with no system found… And when booting he makes again the same strange noises, as if my laptop would try to connect to the hard drive but s.was something fails then and the sound stops again…

Then most likely the hard drive is actually in the bucket. The noise is either the scratching of the upstanding magnet rests or the attempts to position the readhead. At some point the system gives up and the sounds stop.

Maybe you had a boot manager on the disk, which could also boot the USB stick. Now you probably have to make a USB stick bootable or take a CD / DVD. Or the USB stick is already bootable, but BIOS / UEFI is not registered as boot medium.
