I have an old laptop lying around here and wanted to upgrade it to a new operating system. Now I wanted to ask what runs smoothly on the laptop for Windows. The laptop has Windows Vista.
If the hardware allows it, install WIN10
Always give some details like name etc!
Otherwise, no answer fits exactly - except for Vista, it works.
Windows 7, if that works fine you can also try Windows 10.
Otherwise there are a lot of great Linux distros out there.
With the meager 3 GB of RAM and the lame mechanical hard drive, I would install Windows 7 there. It used to be a premium laptop with a huge 18.4 inch screen diagonal! Sometimes I wish something like that back when I have to work on such a measly 13.3 inch screen for a few hours again.
This should enable you to work properly with surfing, mail, office, accounting, image processing, and printing.
Which edition of Windows 7 should I install?
So to get Windows 7 from an expert… I don't know… There are no patches, etc. From Microsoft. Risky when online…
Win 10 doesn't really run with 3GB RAM.
