How can I fix my laptop? - 1

I got a new laptop from my parents, I normally take very good care of my things, but yesterday I noticed that the casing of my laptop had a small crack.

As far as I know, the case is made of magnesium. The crack starts on the back and runs up the side.

My question to you is: can you have it repaired, or maybe even repair it yourself? What are my options?

Made of magnesium? You mean aluminum? I would cover the crack with tape, being careful not to subject the device to any more jarring.

Nowadays they often make them out of a magnesium alloy (not pure, of course). It's very easy.

Like some expensive car rims.

-You can change the housing, you could do this yourself or go to a professional, but it costs a lot of money around 100 euro

- if you don't want to spend a lot of money you can go to dm or a stationery store, there are pens or markers that can paint over scratches

- Another alternative is that you could put a sticker on the spot

-Tip. With more expensive devices, always have a case, so you can prevent further scratches or cracks

Even then my answer was valid.

Pr

No, this is called magnesium alloy.

Is very different from aluminum. Aluminum does not crack as quickly, but it is softer.

Pr

Probably hardly worth it. I would just leave it like that.

And what would YOU do if your case had a crack? I would do everything I can't to spread it. That is why I say yes: do not expose any more vibrations and possibly mask the crack with adhesive tape.

Pr

Yes, the part is right.

Was a Christmas present.

The cover came only a week later… I was so impatient and took it with me to school without a cover…

Do you really have to change the whole case? Since the case is a magnesium case, if you are lucky you could weld it.

A pen or marker could hardly hide a crack that goes through the magnesium - unfortunately it's not just a scratch.

I'm not a fan of stickers or anything.

Ni

Right, has its advantages such as. That it is no longer so susceptible to dust, disadvantage is quite unstable.

I was thinking about putting superglue between the crack

Ni

This bothers me extremely, do you think putting superglue into the crack is worth a try?

Le

Superglue breaks like glass and will definitely not stick there. Epoxy resin would be an alternative. I would put the resin on / in a thin band of fabric and thus distribute the forces of the surface onto the fabric. But then it becomes such an ugly bump on the surface. Of course, you could also unscrew the housing and place the epoxy resin-soaked fabric tape on the crack from the inside.

But you would have to make sure that you can still properly reinstall the circuit board and all components if the fabric tape was glued there at that point.
