When I connect an external monitor (not a television) to my laptop via HDMI, the sound on the laptop disappears. How can I activate it?

Bottom right → right click on loudspeaker → sounds → set device for sound as standard.

Right-click the speaker icon in the notification area of the system tray. Under Output, click Troubleshoot. Now select your HDMI screen in the selection box. Windows will now try to solve your problem automatically.
Alternatively, you can click on the Windows symbol in the system tray and enter the term "sound". This is equivalent to clicking the speaker icon in the system tray.
