I currently use my laptop a lot, and the Wi-Fi connection is via a repeater. However, every now and then I observe that the Wi-Fi simply disappears so that I no longer have a connection. This does not happen with other devices such as my cell phone. In addition, no change can be seen on the repeater, i.e. The reception bars etc. Are all still present. So I guess it has to be related to my laptop.
Do you have any ideas how I can fix this?
You could try moving your laptop a little closer to the repeater, or vice versa, moving the repeater a little closer to your laptop. You can actually check the signal strength beforehand with your mobile phone. WLAN is unfortunately very susceptible to external interference, e.g. Also for the neighbour's WLAN, in the 2.4 gigahertz range e.g. Also for microwaves, but in the 5 gigahertz range for radar.
Use LAN cables instead of WLAN. Is safer and more stable.
Thanks for the answer.
However, the connection is usually really good (with the exception of the malfunctions mentioned) and the laptop is less than 2 meters away from the repeater. The signal strength is also excellent according to the cell phone. That's why I thought it might be due to the settings of the laptop, but apparently it is simply interference.
If you have 100% reception on your laptop (as I read, the laptop is less than 2 meters away from the repeater), then the repeater itself has problems with the reception of the "router WLAN".
In other words, the repeater can't properly receive the router's Wi-Fi. The distance between the repeater and the router is too great or is obstructed by too many obstacles in between.
Make sure that the repeater gets better reception.
Operate the repeater in a different position (closer to the router, elevated), it should be operated halfway between the router and your laptop if possible. So operate the repeater in the next room, which is closer to the router.
Each repeater also has a configuration page that can be called up with a browser (see type plate, sticker on the repeater). The reception strength / quality is often assessed or displayed on this configuration page (bad, moderate, good, very good, excellent…).
