If your laptop supports it you could start it via WOL (Wake on LAN). So you could start your laptop over another device in the network (mobile phone, other computer, own device).

Will you come to the power button when it is closed?
Use a separate screen for my MacBook Pro, from which it draws its power. The MB is almost always closed, the start takes place via the extra screen, the shutdown as well. (LG 27UK850 monitor)
