I have an Acer Swift 5 and bought a LG 35wn65c monitor that supports HDR10. But under the settings in Windows 10 I can't adjust it. At Acer support they said it was due to my HDMI port 1.4.
Can I still transfer HDR?
I still have a USB Type C port. What if I take a USB C to HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 adapter or cable here? My USB C port has the symbol with the rectangle where it says USB.
HDMI 1.4 can't do HDR10. The minimum requirement is HDMI2.0
USB C can't always transfer image. Some are only intended for storage media. If USB C can DisplayPort then not only the SS symbol for USB but also a D symbol for DisplayPort is printed.
I have a USB symbol there and it says on the internet that it supports Displayport 1.2 or something
If only DP 1.2 then that is not enough either. The minimum requirement for HDR10 via DP is DP 1.4
What if I now take a USB C to HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 adapter? Or is it somehow possible to get HDR in my case?
You are welcome to attach an adapter, so Displayport 1.2 is far from becoming a higher version. It's like being at home on the Internet. Just because you lay fiber optics between your router and PC at home doesn't make the Internet faster after only 20Mbit comes from the street.
So is there no way to use HDR? Or is there any way?
No. If there's no way from the laptop in terms of hardware, then unfortunately it just doesn't work.
Okay, it's a shame, I have an Acer Swift 5, just with Hdmi 1.4 and USB C with Displayport 1.2
Do you know how much resolution HDMI 1.4 transmits?
According to google FHD 120Hz, 4096x2160 24Hz, UHD 30Hz and 2560x1600 60Hz. So you would have to go through the USB C DP output anyway. DP 1.2 can UHD at 60Hz. 3440x1440 should also work. It's best to buy a USB C to DP cable right away.
Okay i do
So if I select a resolution of 3440x1440 with my HDMI 1.4 port in the display settings of the external monitor in Windows 10, is it not a 3440x1440 resolution or what?
Maybe the resolution works, but the refresh rate will be limited. As you can see, UHD only goes up to 30Fps / Hz, while FullHD 120Hz is supported.
So can I do more if I use a USB C to DP cable instead of an HDMI?
Yep DP 1.2 does more than HDMI 1.4.
Okay thank you
