Need a new notebook and want to use it like a PC, i. It will be in use for several hours a day. I had bought my previous notebooks for about 400 euro and they always kept exactly two years.
Now I want to invest a bit more and buy a notebook again (I do not want a PC) This time should last longer.
My first notebook was a Fujitsu Siemens and has kept for daily use 5 years. Two other Acer devices have only lasted two years each. In one, the screws have detached from the housing and the last I still have, slowly dissolves the display on the edges. I still have warranty, but I do not know if that is a guarantee.
Now think about a new purchase. Which brand lasts the longest?
Almost every brand has good and bad models.
Stay away from consumer products and look for at least (entry-level) business models
for example
HP Probook
Dell Latitude
Lenovo Thinkpad
Etc
If there's more money, you can go even a step higher, the build quality improves there again a lot
I would totally avoid Acer
I've been working on HP models from the ProBook series for years. Currently an i7 with 16gb RAM and SSD, in use for 2 years, daily use 8h + on the power adapter and still mobile for meetings that like to last 6, 7 or even more hours.
Zero fan noise and very fast and fluid work.
I would recommend without hesitation. With more mobility I would resort to a surface. I sometimes had this in the field service.
I'm writing to you right now from a 13-year-old HP Elitebook with its own graphics. 17 inch. Designed for Autocad.
It is still running very fast. Once I had to clean fan and heat sink with a long-bristle brush and blow through. That's it. For that he is running quietly again.
A 512 SSD I have also allowed my faithful part.
Otherwise. Zero dissolution phenomena. Do everything that I want. NP 1200 Euro.
Built as an opponent to an Ibook. My ex-wife, I got an Acer with full HD 23 years ago. 700 euro on Ebay. Much flatter and more modern. It's also wonderful… 18 inches.
In your place I would take the latest offer from Aldi. They always give a three year warranty.
700 euro it costs but also. But with all the bells and whistles… SSD, own graphics, great display.
I would buy something like that if my old horse does not want to be there any more.
I would not get involved with a particular brand. Acer, HP are good brands, but HP has it all. From cheap to 1300 euro. I would see that.
With 700 euro you do not do anything wrong.
