Can you purposely break a laptop so that it stops working? So throw it on the floor or something like that? So that you can never fix it again?
Melting down…
But why would you want to do that?
I can already imagine that it can succeed. However, you only have the legitimation if it is your own laptop, or if the owner has expressly given permission (ideally in writing).
You should also not try to get a higher quality replacement from the manufacturer or supplier due to the defect. Because that would be unfair, fraudulent behavior. Nor should you involve insurance, e.g. Your own liability insurance, after you have destroyed your property on behalf of the owner so that the owner can buy a new device from the insurance benefit. Such behavior would be insurance fraud.
You can - but why should you?
Depending on the amount of damage and the course of the damage, someone comes from the insurance company anyway and has everything explained in great detail, and if the course of the damage is not 1000% conclusive, there's not a cent, but you are thrown out of the insurance company for attempted insurance fraud.
I assume that you want to dispose of data safely? With the drill through the hard drive
Who do you want to take revenge on? The question is certainly not meant to be different because usually you take out the hard drive / make it unusable and take the laptop to the recycling center.
Think of the subject of "damage to property" and "report" or "compensation"!
