PC no longer boots after an update to WIN 10?

I have an Asus notebook about 4-5 years old. Performance values in themselves quite acceptable. (I will be happy to answer more system details on request). The device was shipped with Windows 8.1 and I have seen no reason to change anything.

On Sunday morning the Corona idea of Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition was born in the Freundeskreis. Said, bought, happy. Unfortunately only possible with Windows 10. (8.1 with black spots despite the comp. Mode).

So I updated to Windows 10 using the Windows Upgrade Client.

A lot soon after the upgrade that I definitely lost performance. But everything went well and we were able to revive childhood in an epic 7 hour arms race.

Yesterday was the end of the day after work. But my PC hung up.

When I performed an "emergency shutdown" by holding the off button, Windows did not boot.

After I had carried out every conceivable repair tool that Windows offered me, I had nothing to accept but a reset.

But not even that works.

"The PC could not be reset. All files were kept!"

Does anyone have any advice?

Insert a Windows installation CD or USB stick and install new. One of your friends can write (or write) it for you.

Probably only a clean reinstallation helps, which goes hand in hand with the loss of all data on C, since this is formatted beforehand.

Updates and upgrades only work half as well anyway and you have all the old garbage on top of them. So never update to a new operating system. Why did you see, among other things, the drop in performance.

What you can still do now is back up data if there's still something on it and then completely reinstall Windows with a USB stick. When installing you have to delete all partitions in the partition manager. Otherwise you still have the old garbage on it.

I was afraid of that. Well, I think in this case n new powerful computer is coming into the booth.

For that I would have to buy Win10 again or?

En

Well, not to thank… I guess that something went wrong with the update that the performance was also affected… I think with a clean reinstallation the thing gets nice and fast again:-)

You can read out the key. Or just log in again if you are logged in with a Microsoft account. But I can't guarantee anything.

PS: Windows 7 Pro / Home Key also costs 20 euro. Would recommend Pro then should also work. Simply enter the key during Win10 installation.

Only for the up-to-date, a nice IT person from my company who is now 2 wine bottles richer, has set up my PC from scratch. Its working again!

Nevertheless thanks for the help!
