My laptop starts for ages and I'm considering switching my HDD with a 250GB SSD.
The HDD is packed with unnecessary stuff and the operating system is also slow af.
The laptop is about 8 years old and has accordingly quite old components.
He has an Intel Pentium with 2.3 Ghz and 4GB RAM, but I could easily upgrade to 8, since such DDR3 are already quite affordable these days.
Is it worth it in your view to install such an SSD in the Asus?
And could someone give me a tip where you can get cheap Windows 10 Pro?
Yes, that's worth it.
Of course, the old boxes will not be magic machines, but the lame hard disks will hinder your work considerably.
An SSD really works wonders. And since SSDs continue to fall in price, it is now even worthwhile to convert quite old computers.
That would interest me too. So now I have to come out here as the total computer dummy.
I have a Samsung laptop with a Samsung Recovery feature. That This recovery function does the reinstallation for me (because I'm too clumsy for that).
Is the operating system on the HDD? Would I lose the recovery function if I install an SSD?
Yes, that would be lost if you remove the HDD. Most of the time, however, there's no alternative, as you can only use one plate.
The recovery function is located on a part of the hard disk not visible to you. This is hidden from you, so to speak, so you do not do any nonsense with it.
So if you swap the HDD for a SSD, then you have to install the operating system quite fresh. Typical of this is the installation via USB stick, or just about any existing DVD drive.
Thank you for the info.
If you want to go the way, you should make sure that you have the activation key. I'm assuming that you use Windows.
In the systems that work with recovery function you often have no obvious activation key. After a complete reinstallation, the key is missing, which of course is annoying.
Depending on your system, it may be possible to extract the activation key. Of course, before you flatten the system.
Yes, I have the key.
If your laptop has 2 2.5 inch slots take a 120 gb ssd. Cost hardly 20 euro and make the old legs neat. If net then take ne 480 gb (from 70 euro) worth it but in my opinion not more.
Ram wirste net need since the components were max beginner class and no game what 8GB ram would need to run only approximately fluid.
An SSD is definitely worth it! Everything is much faster. 4 GB of RAM are enough for surfing and office, since an upgrade is not really necessary.
You can find a cheap Windows key on eBay.
