Return your laptop for repair?

I'm about to hand in my laptop for repair due to the damaged case. Last year I already gave my other older laptop in for repairs to replace the defective display panel, everything was fine. I only had to leave my laptop there for 2 weeks because the new display panel was not there and had to be ordered.

Now I want to hand in my current laptop to the same repairman for repairs, to replace the case. But do I have to return my laptop (newer model with Windows 10, bought at the beginning of 2018) for a few days / weeks or can a replacement housing be on site due to the "newer" laptop model? Is it common that you have to hand in your device for some time or can you pick up your device after a few hours on the same day? And are there also cases where the repairers can access the data on the laptop and take / abuse it? There are also saved passwords on it. Or is something like that excluded?

No don't worry. If you remove the hard drive it is like removing a stick. The data remain. Your data will only remain if, for example, the CPU or the board is replaced, but you will have to reinstall Windoof.

Normally such repair shops (unless they are owned by a company that only repair in-house products) only have the most essential items in stock, the rest is ordered when needed. Because what you have costs money and if you can't get rid of it, of course, that's unfavorable in the truest sense of the word.

So that they can't steal your data, they are not given to them in the first place. Means, as you say it yourself: hard drive out. You can then use it in another laptop while you are doing this. Nothing happens to the data. You should only test it beforehand, because in some cases the Windows login is reluctant… This then requires a few small changes to the settings.
