So my buddy bought a used Asus laptop from Ebay, and there the OnBoard sound card was not recognized under Windows 10. He installed the onboard sound card driver from Asus, but it didn't work. A question mark about the OnBoard sound card does not even appear in the Device Manager. The sales of used Asus laptops mean that it is allegedly not a hardware problem but a software problem, and that he did not manage to reverse it.
So he thinks about installing Linux on the laptop and asks whether the OnBoard sound card will recognize it under Linux. Because I can't imagine how an onboard sound card can break down like that. Because even the onboard sound card of my Windows 10 tablet still works perfectly after 5 years.
99% yes…
But also under Windows! Should google which sound card is installed and install the drivers manually!
Yes we did. We downloaded CPU Z because the motherboard model number was googled, we were redirected to the Asus site and from there we downloaded the sound drivers. But the installation did not work, there's something wrong and you should contact the manufacturer.
And what did the manufacturer say? O_O
Go to the device manager, look at the VID and PID of the device, share them, then you can answer the question if necessary.
This also applies to the procurement of the Windows driver, if one was ever made for Windows 10.
