Tach,
A few days ago I bought my NVMe PCle 3.0 SSD M.2 Samsung EVO 970 for my Asus ROG G14.
To get to the point, what do I have to consider? My laptop only has one slot with the built-in SSD in it and is exchangeable. I don't want to buy a docking station, is there somehow a plan B without the docking station?
There are external NVME M.2 to USB adapters.
In the end, it's like a case where you put your M.2 in. There it is internally connected to a small NVME to USB 3.0 hub and you can now connect this case to your PC via USB.
I myself use this hub: https://www.amazon.de/...08LCW6JBD/
In order to clone your existing system to this M.2, I would recommend another software tool, namely Acronis True Image. The software is also available as a bootable ISO. To gain access to the bootable ISO, you create a free account with Acronis and you have 30 days access to the trial version of Acronis True Image. You can now create a bootable medium in the online dashboard of your Acronis True Image trial version. As far as I mean, these are files packed in .zip, which you can unzip and slide onto an empty stick (4-8GB). https://kb.acronis.com/de/content/19766
Now you shut down your laptop, insert the USB stick and boot from it. You will insert your case with your M.2 SSD later. There's also a video tutorial for Acronis True Image:
After cloning, shut down the laptop, unplug everything, take the SSD out of the case and now you can install it.
First of all, good morning and thank you for the quick answer!
Since, I have from Samsung, there's its own software tool, would it work?
Under Windows with Samsung Magican I would rather not recommend this, as Windows causes problems when recognizing / accessing the SSD via this M.2 to USB tool. The best way to do this is outside of Windows via Acronis. The corresponding video instructions are linked and it is also super easy to use.
I could also pull down Windows 10 with it, right?
Yes, you can use it to move an existing Windows 10. You can specify this in the Acronis clone dialog.
