I got a new laptop (Asus Vivobook 17). A friend of my father set it up for me, but I would like to change the username. I've also searched the internet but found nothing. Can someone please tell me how to do it?
Do you mean the device name?
You can change it under Windows 10 as follows:
Settings → System, then click on "Info" at the bottom.
A "Device Specifications" window is displayed. There's the name of the computer at "device name". Under the device specifications you will find a button "" Rename this PC ". You can use this to change the device name.
Or do you mean your username?
You change it like this:
Press the key combination Windows key + R.
Enter control in the Run dialog and press Enter.
Select the Change account type item in the User account chapter.
Click Change Account Name.
You may have to click the account name again to open the menu for changing.
Enter the new name and click Change Name.
I mean the username. I have now entered Control in Settings, but the menu item you wrote down is not shown to me.
If you press the Windows key + R, enter "control" in the input field and confirm with OK, the "Control Panel" window opens. In the top right there's a menu item "User accounts" and below that a link "Change account type". Click this link and another window will open. There's "Select user to be changed" and below that a field with the current user name. Click on it and a window "Changes to the account of… Execute" will open.
There you can change the account name, password and account type. The account name is the user name that is displayed when Windows starts when you have to enter the password.
